A Pathway Through Brokenness

I have been in pastoral ministry for more than forty-five years.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many broken people—listening, praying, and watching them take their next step.

I have also walked through my own seasons of brokenness.

And that matters.

Because brokenness feels very different when you are living it… than when you are simply talking about it.

Broken people don’t need quick answers or spiritual clichés.
They don’t need to be fixed or rushed.

They need to be seen.
To feel safe.
And to know they can be honest with God.

This Is Not About Fixing Everything

The Grape Smash is not a program designed to solve brokenness.

It is a pathway to help you walk through it—faithfully, slowly, and with hope.

Scripture shows us that brokenness comes in many forms:

  • sin

  • failure

  • loss

  • betrayal

  • harm done by others

  • long-term suffering that does not go away

Each requires care… not comparison.

I did not write this as an expert standing above brokenness,
but as a pastor who has walked with others—and learned how to walk honestly himself.

A Simple, Faithful Path Forward

As I walked through my own season—and alongside others—I began to see a pattern.

Not a formula.
Not a quick fix.

But a pathway.

● The Grape Smash

Understanding how God uses pressure to shape what matters most.

● The Grape Smash Inventory

A simple way to name what you are experiencing—without judgment.

As you begin to slow down and take an honest look at your story, you may start to recognize something unexpected:

You are not the first to walk this path.

Often, you will discover what I call a biblical roommate—someone in Scripture whose story begins to echo your own.

You may see yourself in:

  • David, carrying the weight of personal failure

  • Peter, living with the sting of public shame

  • Naomi, walking through deep loss

  • Joseph, enduring betrayal and injustice

  • the wounded man on the Jericho Road, harmed through no fault of his own

  • the woman who reached for the hem of Jesus’ garment, walking through long-term suffering and chronic illness

And when you begin to recognize that connection, something shifts.

You realize:

You are not alone.
And your story is not outside the reach of God.

● The Next Faithful Step

Not the whole journey.
Just the next step.

God does not ask you to figure everything out.

He simply invites you to take the next faithful step… and then another.

● The Four Anchors

Simple, biblical practices that keep you steady and connected to God.

Not removing the pressure—but holding you steady within it.

● The Three R’s of Healing

Repent • Renew • Resist

Not as a rigid formula…
but as a practice.

A steady way of returning to God, allowing Him to reshape your thinking, and learning to stand firm in truth over time.

● God’s Pattern in Real Lives

These same movements appear in the lives of:

  • David

  • Peter

  • Naomi

  • Joseph

  • the wounded man on the Jericho Road

  • and the woman who reached for the hem of Jesus’ garment

God has always met people in the crushing.

And He still does.

If You Find Yourself Here

If you feel weary…
if you feel pressed…
if life has not turned out the way you expected…

You are not alone.
You are not disqualified.

And God is still with you.

You don’t have to walk this path alone.
